Apple is reducing its App Store commission fees in China

Apple reduces its development costs in China following discussions with the Chinese regulator. Starting March 15, the commission rate for standard in-app purchases (IAP) will be reduced from 30% to 25% on the Mainland China App Store for iOS and iPadOS.
In a Developer , Apple also said that developers belonging to its App Store Small Business or Mini Apps programs would also see their fees reduced by 3 percent, from 15 to 12 percent. This applies to the commission rate for IAPs and on-board subscription renewals after the first year.
“We are working to make iOS and iPadOS the best app ecosystem and a great business opportunity for developers in China,” Apple said in its post. “We are committed to terms that remain fair and transparent for all developers, and to always offer competitive rates on the App Store to developers distributing apps in China that are no higher than overall rates in other markets.”
Apple says developers don’t have to agree to the terms until March 15 to start receiving their benefits, which appears to make the transition as smooth as possible to avoid additional regulatory intervention. This will undoubtedly be seen as a significant victory for Chinese companies, and comes a year after a state watchdog investigated fees Apple charges developers it hosts on the App Store.
