Apple is planning a major overhaul of Siri that will transform the voice assistant into an AI chatbot built directly into its iPhones and Macs, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. The update is expected to arrive later this year and will replace the existing Siri interface, allowing users to interact with the assistant by typing and speaking, similar to chatbots available from Google, OpenAI, Anthropic and others.

As noted BloombergThis change is separate from the AI-based personalization features coming to Siri in the coming months. Like this updated version of Siri, the chatbot would use a custom Google Gemini AI model as part of the multi-year partnership the two companies announced earlier this year, although this version has capabilities that “significantly surpass” its AI personalization features. Bloomberg reports.

Apple reportedly plans to reveal the Siri AI update, codenamed Campos, at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, before launching it in September. This will be the “major new addition” to iOS 27, iPadOS, and macOS 27, with other updates primarily focused on stability, Gurman writes.
