Apple’s and Samsung’s Warning: The Truth About Putting Wet Phones in Rice

However, none of these methods is guaranteed to work, and although there are a lot of anecdotal evidence, there are very few scientific studies on the subject. What Apple and Samsung recommend
The two largest phone manufacturers have advice in case you put your phone in the water.

If you see this warning or your iPhone comes into contact with water, lotions, soap or other potentially dangerous materials, here is what Apple says:

2 Gently press your phone with the load port down to remove excess water from the port.
3 and 3 Place your iPhone in a dry area with good traffic and wait at least five hours. Point a fan on the load port of your iPhone could help the process.
After five hours, try to turn on your iPhone and reassemble it.
Apple also says that you do not put your iPhone in rice. “This could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone,” writes the company online.
Drop your smartphone in the water? Do not panic.
Samsung has similar instructions to dry your phone:
1 and 1 Remove your phone from the water, turn it off and dry it with a dry towel or a clean cloth.
2 Place your phone in a well -ventilated or shade area with fresh air from a fan. Samsung does not specify a duration to wait, however.
Samsung says that even after following these steps, there could still be water inside your phone, so you should bring it to a Samsung electronic service center.
The two manufacturers also say that if you put your phone in a liquid other than clean water – such as soda or pool water – you should quickly rinse your phone using tap water before drying with a towel and then air drying.
Apple and Samsung say never use a heating source, such as a dryer or an oven, to dry your phone. The heat could damage it.
Silica gel beads could help
You can also try silica gel. According to Gazelle, silica gel beads are a good option to absorb moisture of phones. Silica gel beads can be found in these white labeled “packs” do not eat “that many products are filled. You can save these packs from packages you have received, or buy packs via online stores like Amazon or companies like Dry & Dry.
Once you have your silica, here is what to make your phone fall into the water:
1 and 1 Take your phone out of the water and turn it off.
2 Dry the outdoors of your phone with a plush -free towel.
3 and 3 Place your phone in a large container.
4 Fill the container with your silica gel beads and seal the container.
5 Gazelle recommends waiting 72 hours to let your phone dry.
6. Remove your phone from the container and try to turn it back on.
Other household items could help
If you don’t have silica gel pearls at hand, you can try other household items. Gazelle has found couscous and rice instantly both good as drying agents.
Follow the steps in the above section, but replace the silica pearls with one or the other, wait for the same time, then try to restart your device.
Gazelle has also tested conventional cat litter, oats, chia seeds and white rice, but do not recommend these products because they leave debris that could damage your phone.
