Arctic League still $43,000 away from Christmas gift goal
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The Arctic League’s annual fundraiser for the children of Chemung County has yet to reach its goal.
Each year, the Arctic League raises funds to provide Christmas gifts to children in need in Chemung County. Volunteers help wrap gifts and deliver them to families on Christmas Eve.
The nonprofit aims to raise $175,000, but right now it’s $43,000 short. The money raised this year will be used for Christmas gifts for children in 2026.

“It’s concerning to be honest with you. I’ve been on the board here since 2011, and I think every year we’ve hit our goal early and been able to close the book now, and that’s not the case this year, but it is what it is,” said Robby Robertson, vice president of the Arctic League.
Despite the challenges the Arctic League faces, Arctic League President Karen Ring said she remains grateful for the support the organization has received so far.
“It makes me very happy about what people have already donated, but also very sad about what we are missing, because the money we raise this year goes to buy toys for next year, 2026,” Ring said.

Organizers say the slower pace of fundraising is not surprising due to rising inflation and financial pressures on families.
“Times are tough, there’s no doubt about it nationally, nationally, locally, times are just tough. I mean, people have to pinch pennies, so it’s a sign of the times, but it’s something we’ve been through before,” Robertson said.
Tier Discussion: Arctic League
The Arctic League wants the public to know that any donation, no matter the amount, allows children to have gifts under their trees.
“Any donation that someone makes is part of the Arctic League, and that’s what keeps this incredible community and support going,” Ring said.
