Arizona, Nevada and Mexico will again get less Colorado River water in 2026

Federal officials say that Arizona, Nevada and Mexico must again live with less water from the Colorado river while drought lingers to the west. Friday’s announcement means that Arizona will go again without 18% of its allowance, while Mexico loses 5%. The reduction in Nevada will remain 7%. Meanwhile, states are trying to reach an agreement by next year on new long -term rules to govern the river during dry years. The Trump administration has given states that count on the river until mid-November to establish preliminary rules for dry years or risk federal intervention. Negotiations have faced delays while states postpone the amount of water they should abandon.
