Ars Live: What’s up with the sudden surge in temperatures?

Thursday, we encourage you to join us for a live conversation with Zeke Hausfather, climatologist and researcher at Berkeley Earth. We are going to talk a bit about how he entered climate science and found himself in Berkeley Earth and the role that the organization plays in the world of climate science. He was launched by a physicist who was somewhat skeptical about the work carried out by climatologists, but he became one of the key groups that makes the necessary calculations to follow the temperatures of the planet.

Over the past two years, these temperatures have experienced a remarkable increase in record summits, at some point, fixing a one -year chain where each month has set a record for the warmest instance of this recorded month. The increase leaves us at the risk of exceeding key climatic targets much earlier than expected and let the climate science community rush to explain the intensity of heat. We therefore plan to ask Zeke a little what scientists think about the dramatic nature of these changes, try to explore the relationship between temperatures and things like tilting points and individual weather events.

And everything that leads to the key question: what does that tell us where our climate is likely to pass during the rest of this century?

After that, we would like to give things up to your questions. Is there anything you always wanted to know about the climate sciences but who did not know who to ask? Zeke may be your guy – and if not, he almost certainly knows who is. So please join us for this discussion, which takes place on Thursday, June 26 at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
