RFK Jr. Says Every Person Who Lost Health Insurance Is Illegal

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had a callous and wildly inaccurate response to a question about millions of Americans losing health insurance during a congressional hearing Friday.
The Health and Human Services secretary was testifying before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and Democratic Rep. Greg Casar asked him if he had “met any of the 1.4 million people who lost their health insurance last year because of the scrapping of Obamacare.”
Kennedy remained unmoved by the question.
“They are almost all illegal immigrants”, Kennedy replied. Casar pressed further, saying it appeared Kennedy hadn’t met anyone, referring to someone in his congressional district who had lost his confidence. Kennedy intervened.
Casar: Have you met any of the 1.4 million people who lost their health insurance last year because of the demise of Obamacare?

“We found 1.5 million illegal immigrants collecting Medicaid illegally,” Kennedy said, before Casar stepped in and pointed out that people in his district have seen their monthly health insurance costs skyrocket by hundreds of dollars, including mothers and children. He asked Kennedy again if he had spoken to people who had lost their insurance, and Kennedy tried to argue that the Affordable Care Act’s costs are lower for many Americans. Casar’s interrogation time then expired.
“Chairman, it seems like he hasn’t met with anyone and hasn’t been able to explain to them why it’s okay for this policy to exclude them from their health care,” Casar concluded, addressing committee chairman Tim Wahlberg.
Undocumented immigrants have never been eligible for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. In January, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which RFK Jr. oversees as health secretary, reported that 1.4 million fewer Americans had signed up for ACA plans because the prices had become too high. All thanks to the Republicans and the Trump administration who authorized the ACA subsidies. expire. Kennedy doesn’t seem to mind.
