The words do not have that is, when Black Friday falls in April and lasts for two weeks. Originally coined to refer to the pandemonium and chaos when holiday shopping met post-Thanksgiving football games, Black Friday has clearly become “discounts at any time.”

So when Home Depot announces that it’s having a “Spring Black Friday” sale, what it seems to be trying to say is that spring might as well be Christmas for DIY and gardening. It’s when you buy stuff. Except probably for yourself.

Either way, most of this sale isn’t a barn burner. But Home Depot loves BOGO tool sales on Milwaukee tools used and recommended by WIRED tester Scott Gilbertson. And Weber grills are $50 to $100 off, including some of WIRED’s favorite grills on earth.

Here are the deals WIRED is tracking during Home Depot’s Black Friday spring sale, which ends April 22. Or just check out Home Depot’s full Black Friday deals below.

Weber

Spirit E-210 gas barbecue

For years, we’ve recommended Weber’s simple 200 Series Sprit grills as among the best grills at the intersection of value and performance. The build quality is good, cooking is even, and the heat from the propane burners is easy to adjust. Like all Webers, you can outfit your grill’s workspace with accessories and clip-on options until it’s tong heaven. Spirit is already quite affordable, with a 10-year warranty and porcelain-coated cast iron grill grates that make kitchens easy to clean and clean. An extra $50 off is a nice icing on the cake.

But note that while a Spirit is probably all the grill you’ll need for a large family, grill cooks who throw a lot of parties could upgrade to the Genesis E-325 ($849) for a larger sear area and higher BTUs, additional storage and prep, and the option of a top grill. It’s also on sale in April, for $100 off the list price.

BOGO deals on Milwaukee, Dewalt and Ryobi tools

The other thing Home Depot likes to do is offer BOGOs on tools – in this case, a $200 tool with a free $200 power supply. Needless to say, this is a good deal.

On the Milwaukee tool ecosystem used by WIRED reviewer and die-hard DIYer Scott Gilbertson, beloved for its blend of value, durability and pure power, an assortment of tools comes with a free power supply.

But these BOGos can be a little maddening to sort through on Home Depot’s website. So I’ve taken some steps for you. Here are the links to the BOGO deals for Milwaukee, Ryobi and DeWalt. You are welcome.

Big discounts on Ryobi garden tools

Longtime WIRED reviewer Parker Hall has long believed that Ryobi garden tools are the most widely used ecosystem of tools for home gardeners and landscapers, from lawn mowers to chainsaws to trimmers.

Part of the reason for this is service: at least in our area (the Pacific Northwest), Ryobi doesn’t force you to send tools to be repaired elsewhere. Instead, they hire a repairman, who comes to you and fixes your mower. It’s a wonderful thing. Regardless, Hall says he rarely had to call his repairman. He just likes knowing he’s there.
