NASA is preparing for the historic launch of its first flyby mission to the Moon in more than 50 years. Training for the Artemis II mission began shortly after the crew was appointed in 2023, according to the mission’s training manager, Jacki Mahaffey.

Much of the training takes place in the Orion mission simulator at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where astronauts rehearse each phase of the flight, deal with possible contingencies and practice communicating with Mission Control.

The simulator reproduces the look, feel and sounds of the real Orion spacecraft.
