Trump Mountain: Georgia lawmaker proposes renaming Atlanta-area landmark

A North Georgia monument could soon be renamed in honor of President Donald Trump — if a state lawmaker has his way.

Rep. David Clark, R-Buford, introduced a resolution Tuesday to rename Sawnee Mountain in Forsyth County, located just under 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, to “Trump Mountain,” according to WSB-TV.

“President Trump is one of the most transformative presidents in our country’s history,” Clark wrote in a Facebook post detailing the decision.

“That’s why I introduced a resolution today to rename Sawnee Mountain in Forsyth County to Trump Mountain to honor its historic legacy of making America great again.”

The decision sparked backlash from some Trump critics who slammed the move in the comments.

“It’s satire, isn’t it?” wrote one commenter.

Another chimed in, saying: “Transformer is not a compliment.”

Others noted the mountain’s historical significance to the Native American community, drawing parallels between the two.

According to FOX 5 in Atlanta, the mountain’s current name comes from a famous Native American chief.

Some commentators were more favorable to Clark’s proposal.

“He is [Trump has] I certainly deserved it. No president since Lincoln has faced headwinds from the other side,” one said, with another Trump supporter adding: “Trump is THE most transformative figure in American history, and he doesn’t come close.”

Clark’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Clark is also running to be the Peach State’s next lieutenant governor.
