Pocock says Australia must also focus on returns from ‘industries of the future’
Pocock advocated for a fair return on gas and other “industries of the future,” including critical minerals and AI data centers.
He said:
I think we need to get a fair return on exporting our gas right now, but we need to look to all these other industries that we’re told are the industries of the future, critical minerals, AI data centers.
When asked what this fair return looks like and whether he thinks Australia should consider a government ownership model similar to Norway, he replied:
I don’t have a specific solution to this problem, but I think it’s the principle of how do we get a fair return on resources that belong to the Australian people?
David Pocock calls for a “fair return” on gas exports
David Pocock says he doesn’t want the gas industry to “stop”, he wants “a fair return on exports of our gas”.
The independent ACT senator, who features on Insiders, is asked about his calls for a 25 per cent tax on gas exports.
We are currently one of the largest gas exporters in the world. My argument is that we should get a fair return on the export of this gas and also reduce the price of gas here in Australia.
We are constantly told that we have some sort of gas shortage. We have manufacturers here paying more for Australian gas than Japan buys for our gas.
David Pocock on Insiders this morning
Independent ACT Senator David Pocock will speak to the Insiders host soon David Speers before the battle over the Albanian government’s budget goes to parliament this week.
More news is expected soon on the volley of gunshots heard Saturday evening near the White House in Washington DC.

In the clip, Wang could be seen diving for cover as what “sounded like dozens of gunshots” rang out.
