The best Prime Video movies aren’t always loved by critics – here’s my underrated pick for August 2025
Prime Video added 56 new films and 13 new television shows in August, and a particular title really marked me. Even thus, his poor rotten tomato score could discourage you.
Wolf is Leigh Whannell’s latest film, and after its superb history with films like The invisible man And UpgradeIt was disappointing to see it turning critically. Currently, it has a 48% score on the site, indicating that it is “rotten”.
But I am a big fan of WolfAfter giving him a 4 -star review when I watched the film a few months ago. I also had the chance to interview the main actor, Christopher Abbott, who told me about the tragic elements of the film.
While Wolf Perhaps not considered worthy of a place on our first-rate video film list, here is why you should consult it.

Wolf is an emotional and frightening vision of the classic creature of the universal monster film, while we follow a family man named Blake who tries to protect his family from a werewolf.
In terrifying scenes, however, Blake is infected and slowly turns into one. I was really impressed by the way it was done, and as Blake becomes more monstrous, he is unable to understand or communicate with his family.
Of course, it is frightening in places with effective nervous moments, but it is the emotionally motivated nature of this one that really brought me. It is a deeply sad film about loss, sorrow and change, and uses many horror tropes to communicate this.
You may have already seen Weaponsto which I gave a 5 -star review, and Wolf Includes another excellent performance by Julia Garner in front of Christopher Abbott. It is a star cast with an equally excellent performance of a young Matilda Firth, who plays the couple’s daughter.
Despite the fact that he was not well received by the majority of criticism, I think there is an audience here, especially if you like horrors and chills in a place.
