The authorities arrested a suspect in the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, officials announced on Friday, ending a hunt for the frantic man for the shooter.
“We got it,” said Governor of Utah Spencer Cox at a press conference.
Cox identified the suspect as Tyler Robinson from Utah. He said one of Robinson’s family members contacted a friend, who contacted the Sheriff’s Bureau of Washington County Thursday evening with information that Robinson had admitted or implied that he was the shooter.
This information was relayed to the authorities, and the director of the FBI, Kash Patel, said that Robinson had been arrested at 10 p.m. local time on Thursday evening.
Kirk was fatally killed by speaking to a host of students from the University of Utah Valley on Wednesday afternoon, causing massive research for the shooter.
After the shooting, the FBI and the Utah Public Security Ministry published photos of the suspect, dressed in a black shirt and hat and a black backpack, as well as a video of him shaking a roof on the campus after filming and flight.
President Trump announced on Fox & Friends earlier on Friday that the authorities had a suspect in detention.
“I hope he will be convicted, I imagine, and I hope he will get the death penalty,” said Trump.
