Transcript: Trump Seethes as Plot to Rig 2026 Suddenly Goes Off Rails

The question about Virginia, the question about Florida, the question in so many of these places is how quickly is the process moving and how…what is the impact of how they run into deadlines? And that’s, I think, what we’re going to continue to watch and hear more about: what is the implication of the next step in the 2026 elections: the candidate filing deadlines, the primaries that will impact when the maps can be changed in order to have the 2026 elections?
Sergeant: Well, I have to think about the magnitude of the victory in Virginia [where] Abigail Spanberger won the gubernatorial race by 15 points. There is a winning trio and there has also been a very big improvement at the state legislative level. I have to think that this really encourages Democrats to say we’re going to do that. We can’t let them overwhelm us with FloridaRIGHT? I mean, is there any doubt that Virginia will move forward? I would expect them to do so. RIGHT. And how many seats do you think Democrats can add from there?
Williams: Yeah. So in Virginia, it looks like two to four seats are at stake in this process. They are once again engaged in a constitutional process and must therefore be adopted by Parliament. again, and then it has to go to the people. So there are certain steps to take and, again, certain deadlines to respect. I think the other thing that’s happening is [a] A complementary and less discussed element is that Democrats are focused on what this electorate wants. And what we take away from Virginia that I think really applies in this context in 2026 is that we won in Trump’s districts. So the idea that all these gerrymanders are unattainable for Democrats or that there is no path to the majority is simply false. So while the process is happening on mid-cycle redistricting, efforts are also being made, of course, on the campaign side to ensure that we are maximizing opportunities in this electorate and reaching voters where they are.
