While fans were certainly excited about Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, people were also wondering if he would bring up President Donald Trump or ICE. And while he may not have mentioned them by name, there was certainly a political message in his performance.

Towards the end of the stunning halftime performance, Bad Bunny – notably speaking in English – declared “God Bless America.” However, he then referred all countries in the Americas, not just the United States. It was a pointed message of unity and solidarity.

Bad Bunny also held up a football that read “Together We Are America.”

The Puerto Rican megastar has regularly been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump and ICE. For example, Bad Bunny echoed the activist rallying cry “ICE out” during his Grammy acceptance speech and excluded the United States from his tour to prevent his fans from being harassed by ICE.

“Americans could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans from the United States could also travel here or to any part of the world,” he told iD magazine. “But there was the issue that…ICE might be outside (my concert venue). And that’s something we were talking about and very concerned about.”

So it was no surprise that he delivered a message, otherwise totally explicit, at the Super Bowl.

Earlier in the day, Green Day — another vocal critic of Trump and ICE — chose not to make an explicit political statement during its pregame performance at the Super Bowl. They did, however, play the song “American Idiot,” which has an obvious political message.
