Looking at Framework’s progress on software support for its repairable laptops

Over the past five years, we have paid a lot of attention to Framework, the PC company has arrived on modular, repairable and customizable modular computers designs.
Until now, Framework has done a solid job by offering a constant flow of hardware upgrades for its systems, in particular the original laptop 13. But the company’s history on software assistance, including BIOS updates and pilot updates with performance improvements, bugs and important security updates – have been more than one mixed bag.
Since our article in April 2024, several iterations of the laptop 13 card had spent years without update of the BIOS or updated pilot package. The first iteration of the laptop did not have the “beta” support for Windows 11, which had been released for 2.5 years, and the company also had trouble providing Linux support and promised functional upgrades for other models.
We spoke with the CEO of Framework, Nirav Patel, for this article, which recognized the problems and provided some explanations – mainly, this framework is a small company and that it is based on upstream equipment manufacturers like Intel and AMD for some updates. But he also promised that improvements were coming.
Patel said that a dedicated Comal team, the PC White-Box manufacturing company which manufactures most of the framework equipment, had been hired and on board. And once this team was up to date, the plan was to continue continuously the catalog of ancient and current Framework products, ensuring that no model has been neglected for a long time.
“Mid-Summer of Patel [2024]”The calendar to make these modifications proved to be a little optimistic, but it seems that the team has made real progress in the past year.
Real improvements

The BIOS update status page and the framework pilot from June 25, 2025. Each framework laptop obtained at least one organic and an update of the pilot in the previous calendar year, a large improvement compared to the state of things in April 2024.

This thread on Reddit de Framework gives a high level preview of version dates for drivers packages and Framework Bios updates, and for all its products that go back to the Intel Core version of the 11th generation of the 11th generation of the first Framework laptop, the company has sent at least one BIOS update in the past eight months. Most models have seen at least one update in the 2025 calendar. Pilot packages tend to be a little Older, but the oldest are from June 2024, and the Core Ultra Framework laptop and all AMD models obtained at least one update from the pilot package in 2025.
