Catholic Conversions Increasing as People Are ‘Hungry for Truth’

The number of people, mostly young adults, converting to Catholicism is increasing across the United States, and one church leader said it’s because there is a desire for something that only faith can fulfill.
Bishop Robert Barron told Fox News the church broke the record in 2025 for the number of adult converts and again this year.
“So this is a visible trend throughout the Church and it is certainly the case in my diocese,” he said. The outlet noted that the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, reported 1,701 people preparing to join the church, while others in Cleveland, Ohio, Boston, Massachusetts, and Portland, Oregon, also reported increases in that number, the outlet said Sunday.
A report released in April indicated that waves of young people were flocking to Catholic churches across the country, and a few months later, the Vatican Fides news agency shared statistics showing a boom in Catholic populations in Asia and Africa.
Another report released in May found that more young people in America and other Western countries were embracing Christianity after a Pew Research poll found that its decline in America appeared to have slowed, according to Breitbart News.
Additionally, Christian and gospel music in the United States grew in 2025, the outlet reported, adding, “This growth defies some reports that previously claimed Christianity was in decline in America.” »
According to the Fox article, Catholic ministries on college campuses were reporting growing numbers of converts, and Barron said many adults expressed their “thirst for the truth.”
He added: “Saint Augustine said, ‘Lord, you have created us for yourself, and therefore our heart is restless until it rests in you,’ and that remains true. There is a desire in the heart that cannot be satisfied by anything in this world, and that is why religion talks about that.”
