The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says the tsunami threat from an earthquake off the southern Philippines has passed. Small waves were detected on the coasts of Indonesia and the Philippines after Friday’s earthquake. The highest level detected was 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) above tide level in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province. The Honolulu Tsunami Center said that although the threat had passed about two hours after the quake, slight sea fluctuations could continue. The damage caused by the earthquake was still being assessed.
