Blocked kicks throw NFL games into chaos
The Rams of Los Angeles, the Packers of Green Bay and the Buccaneers of Tampa Bay all seemed to have clear paths to the victories during week 3 of the NFL calendar – to be blocked.
The attempts blocked on the ground played major roles in the training of the results of several games on Sunday, no more surprisingly than in Philadelphia, where the Eagles, dragging 26-7 during the second half, blocked the last two trips of the Rams to win a return victory and improve at 3-0.
The two blocks arrived in the fourth quarter, the first with a little more than eight minutes to play and Philadelphia trying to hold its deficit only 26-21.
Philadelphia had taken the lead, 27-26, with 1:48 on the left, but the Rams still had a chance to win. They were lining up for a potential winner basket with three seconds to play when the Eagles blocked the kick and returned it for a touch to seal their 33-26 victory. It was the first defeat of the Rams this season.
Meanwhile, the jets, who dragged 26-20 with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter to Tampa Bay, returned their own kick blocked for a touch – the first time since 2024 and only the fifth time since 2000, these multiple attempts on the field have been returned for touch. He appeared enough to raise the jets to their first victory of the season – and perhaps in Tampa Bay his first defeat.
The Buccaneers (3-0), however, would get the last laugh after reaching a basket winning in the game while time expired on a kick, the jets (0-3) could not get their hands.
Even the Browns before without a victory, one of the biggest outsiders of week 3, have taken action, blocking a kick on the way to stun the unbeaten packers before, who were trying to take a lead with only 27 seconds to play in the fourth quarter.
Five games later, Cleveland was able to get out of his own 55 yard kick for his first victory of the season.
