Blogging service TypePad is shutting down and taking all blog content with it
Typepad was a blogging service based on the mobile type content management system, but hosted on the typepad site and with other customizations. The mobile type and typepad were originally created by six others, Typepad being the solution for less technical users who just wanted to create a site and a mobile type being the version that you can download and accommodate anywhere and customize to your liking – not unlike the relationship between WordPress.com (the site that hosts other sites) and WordPress.org (the site that hosts the open source software).
The mobile type and the typepad diverge in the early 2010s; Six apartments was bought by a company called VIDEOEGG in 2010, which led to a merged company entitled Say Media. In 2011, let’s say that Media sold a mobile type and the name of the brand six others to a Japanese company called Infocom while retaining typepad control. The forms filed with the SEC indicate that Typepad was acquired in 2013 by International Group Endurance, which also owns BlueHost, among other accommodation and accommodation brands. The mobile type still lives; Its latest major version, 8.4.0, was released in November 2024.
