Newark police are searching for the shooter who killed a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman Saturday night.

Gunshots rang out in the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The large number of shots fired prompted people to hide.

At least 17 evidence markers could be spotted as police bombarded the area.

The bullets hit five people.

The victims, aged 10 and 21, were pronounced dead at University Hospital.

Three other victims, an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 60-year-old man, were still hospitalized in stable condition as of Sunday morning.

Mayor Ras Baraka urges the shooter to go to the police.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in this case.

Lamont Vaughn of the Newark Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery has seen too many families deal with this pain.

“It’s not something that’s treated with a single dose of medicine. It’s a multi-layered approach that has to happen. And it takes the community, it takes the government, it takes the business community. It takes the parents, it takes the residents — it takes everyone,” Vaughn said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Tip Line at 1-877-TIPS-4EC or 1-877-847-7432. All calls will remain confidential.
