Millennial Charmed by 1800s Apartment, so She Buys It—Then Regret Sets In

A video of a Canadian woman living in Scotland sharing her regret of having bought an apartment from the 19th century which turned out to have significant humidity problems became viral on Tiktok.
The video was published by Tayce (@tayceomoni), a millennial mother in the thirties, and raised 112,000 views since she was shared on August 10. The text on the clip reads
In the video, Tayce starts with a frank admission: “I made a huge mistake. I absolutely hate myself … We have just bought a two -bedroom apartment in Scotland, I was charmed by the high ceilings, wooden floors and heritage vibrations.
Talk to Newsweek, Tayce explained her initial attraction for property. “When I saw it, I loved high ceilings, old details and wooden floors. I love the Victorian and Georgian houses. We decided to buy it due to the low cost and the possibility of having an old apartment,” she said.

She admitted that she had been aware of certain problems: “I read that it was wet in the home relationship, but I did not think it was a huge deal, because I realize that most of the old apartments will have a certain humidity. I realized that I hated that when I felt the moldy or moldy smell in one of the rooms that I had not noticed before.”
His experience occurs at a time when many house buyers are faced with difficult accommodation decisions. According to a 2024 report by the Joint Center for Housing Studies from Harvard University, millions of Americans were “sheltered from the market by high prices of houses and interest rates”. The report revealed that the prices of houses had increased out of 97 of the 100 main markets, with particularly high increases in the northeast and midwest regions.
For Tayce, the reality of the state of the property quickly settled. Nowsweek. “I felt like I wanted to buy something easier, even if I admire how beautiful the apartment is and I can be. I would like to change the bedroom and the bathroom the most.”
His video Tiktok shows the start of renovations in certain parts of the house. She says in the clip: “So we live in chaos right now while we are trying to renovate this … I have no experience … We are just withdrawing from wallpaper … We will leave for the best.”
Despite his frustration, Tayce maintains a feeling of determination. In the video, she says: “You don’t need to tell me how stupid I am because I already know. I feel terrible. I feel worthless. I am in a lower of all time. But I will never stop being optimistic, so here is to solve this problem …”
