Derek Dooley Enters Contested Georgia Senate Republican Primary
Former football coach Derek Dooley entered the georgia in 2026 on Monday in 2026 to overthrow the Democratic Senator of Georgia, Jon Ossoff.
DOOLEY, a new political coming supported by the Republican Governor of Georgia, Brian KEMP, is in the running for the republican appointment in one of the most consecutive races of the environment. Dooley underlined his experience leading to college and professional football as well as his status as a political foreigner in a two -minute campaign announcement video entitled “Georgia First”. “We need a new leadership in Georgia,” said Doley in the video, which also highlights his support for President Donald Trump’s agenda. “I’m going to work with President Trump, fight for you and always put Georgia first.”

“Professional politicians like Jon Ossoff are the problem. Anarchy, the season open to the border, inflation everywhere, the things have awakened – that’s what they represent,” said Doley.
The Republicans consider Georgia as one of the best opportunities to collect their party to extend its majority of 53 places in the middle of the end. Although ossoff is considered the most vulnerable democratic race for re -election, its campaign builds an important war box – with around $ 15.5 million in the bank – and could benefit from a disputed republican primary.
Kemp would have chosen to put himself behind Dooley after having died in the Senate himself in May, leading the Georgia Commissioner to the John King insurance to suspend his campaign. Doley donors could hope to reproduce the success of the Alabama Republican Senator, Tommy Tuberville, who was elected to the Senate in 2020 – without any experience of his elected duties – after almost a decade which displays the University of Auburn football program.
The entry of Dooley into the primary will set up a crowded competition with high issues for the republican appointment which also includes the republican representatives of Georgia, Buddy Carter and Mike Collins. Its first advertisement contrasts its history of never having occupied a political function before with others who have spent time “climbing the political scale of DC”.
Collins entered the race on July 28 and picked up several notable mentions, including the former president of the Newt Gingrich Chamber of Georgia.
Carter, a six-term chamber legislator who previously directed a health-focused panel with the powerful energy and trade committee, is committed to spending more than $ 10 million on its own money to better the growing field of GOP candidates, according to the Atlanta newspaper.
Trump has not yet approved the primary of the state’s GOP Senate in 2026 and his support could prove to be decisive. The three candidates underlined their support for the Trump administration policies and committed to helping to achieve the president’s agenda if they were elected to the upper room.
The Republicans of Georgia hope to avoid the failures of 2022 during which the party appointed Herschel Walker, a former football star approved by Trump, to defeat the Democratic Senator of Georgia Raphael Warnock. The outgoing Democrat won about three percentage points in a December runoff despite the state’s republican trends and Kemp beat the Fatural Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams in the Governor’s race.
Doley’s father is the end of the University of Georgia Titan, Vince Dooley, who won a national championship and six dry titles while taking the flagship university of the state.
DOLELEY led to the University of Tennessee from 2010 to 2012 and was coach of Dallas Cowboys from Cowboys from 2013 to 2017. He recently worked under the former football coach of the University of Alabama, Nick Saban, as an offensive analyst from 2022.
Dooley did not vote in several presidential elections, including the 2020 competition, the Washington examined.
