Brigitte Macron gender row trial begins as ten hauled to court for ‘harassing’ French first lady over claims she’s a man

TEN people are on trial today for “sexist cyber-harassment” against French First Lady Brigitte Macron, following bizarre claims that she is a man.
It comes after Ms Macron, 72, and her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, filed a defamation action in court. summer to prove that she is a biological woman.
Eight men and two women, all aged 41 to 60, will be tried in a Paris criminal court and faces up to two years in prison.
They were accused of making numerous “malicious” claims about the First Lady’s sexuality and gender.
Some even suggested that her 24-year age difference with her husband was “pedophilia,” prosecutors said.
Among the accused is conspiracy theorist Aurélien Poirson-Atlan, 41, a publicist known online as “Zoe Sagan.”

Among the defendants also include a woman who has already been the subject of a defamation complaint from Ms. Macron in 2022.
Delphine J., 51, a self-proclaimed spiritual medium under the pseudonym Amandine Roy, claimed that Ms Macron had once been a man called Jean-Michel Trogneux – the name of her brother.
Also facing a trial are an elected official, a gallery owner, a teacher or even a computer scientist.
Brigitte Macron’s legal battles
For years, vicious rumors that Brigitte was born male have been spread online by conspiracy theorists and right-wing figures.
One of the biggest names to do so is American specialist Candace Owens.
Last March, Owens declared that she would “bank on [her] entire professional reputation” on the assertion that Brigitte was born male.
She even claimed that Brigitte was in fact her brother, Jean-Michel Trogneux, and that her first husband never existed.
Hurt by the eccentric comments addressed to its hundreds of thousands of viewers, Brigitte and Emmanuel Macron took legal action.
But Owens countered by saying she would demand a medical examination as part of any trial.
She announces: “We are going to ask Brigitte to have an examination by an independent doctor.
“We’re coming to get his medical records.”

DR Emma Hilton, a developmental biologist at the University of Manchester, told The Sun that the First Lady could technically offer at least five types of evidence.
CHILDBIRTH
The strongest evidence, Dr. Hilton said, would be to show that she bore a child.
“If you see a baby coming out of someone, you’re going to say, ‘yeah, okay, it’s a woman,'” she commented.
And the photos of Brigitte Macron pregnant with her three children could be decisive.
HORMONES LEVELS
Doctors might check levels of sex hormones – testosterone, estrogen and progesterone – which differ in men and women.
Dr Hilton noted: “This is something that has been used before for sporting categories.
“We use them to check the general sexual health of men and women as adults.”
MAKE A MALE GENE
Scientists can perform a genetic test to detect the specific gene that triggers male development.
“It’s called the ‘make male’ gene. It’s the only trigger in humans that lets them say you’re going to become a man,” Dr. Hilton said.
And if it is absent, that means it is a woman.
CHROMOSOME SCREENING
A simple test could show whether Macron carries a Y chromosome – a marker of male sex.
This usually means taking a blood sample and looking for the presence of a Y chromosome, usually linked to the male sex.
MENSTRUAL HISTORY
Doctors might also look at menstrual history, meaning whether a person has ever had a period, when it started and how regular it is.
Her lawyers have insisted that Owens has the right to say what she believes under free speech laws.
Rumors about Brigitte’s birth sex took off in France after the far-right magazine Faits et Documents published them in 2021.
Macron and her husband then filed a defamation suit in July and vowed to do whatever was necessary to prove that Brigitte is and always has been a woman.
They were then hawked to the public by bloggers Natacha Rey and Amandine Roy who pushed them to YouTube interview went viral.
The Macrons sued Rey and Roy for defamation in Paris and won, with both women facing huge fines.
But the two men were later acquitted by the Paris court. Court of Appeal on the incident for reasons of freedom of expression.
Brigitte appealed the decision to overturn the court verdict.
Amandine, a 51-year-old self-proclaimed whistleblower, has long claimed that Brigitte is a transgender woman who was born Jean-Michel.
They claim she never gave birth to her three children because of her gender.

President Macron has furiously denied the allegations, calling them “false and fabricated”.
On International Women’s Day, he said: “The worst thing is fake news and fabricated scenarios. People end up believing them.”
