Taylor Swift’s giant engagement ring, and the celebrity trend for big rocks

BBC News
Taylor Swift announced his commitment to his partner Travis Kelce, sharing a series of photos, including one of the rings, on Instagram.
The message was accompanied by the legend: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher get married.”
However, all English teachers cannot afford a diamond ring that costs six or even seven figures.
Fans and curious spectators shared their opinions on the proposal and the catchy ring.
@ Taylorswift / InstagramIndustry experts estimated that it could cost £ 500,000 to 4 million pounds Sterling, said Ruth Faulkner, chief editor of the retail magazine.
The diamond seemed to be a vintage stone of 8 to 10 carats, which, according to Ms. Faulker, is “quite rare” for an ancient room.
Jewelry journalist Rachael Taylor said that the sweeter shine on the stone was probably because it was an ancient hand in hand rather than by the machine.
She added that the Swift ring plays in a trend towards vintage styles with different oversized cuts and stones, which are part of the singer’s “romantic” aesthetics.
“Whenever celebrity gets engaged, if their ring is particularly distinguished, it will always arouse a little interest in this,” added Ms. Faulker.
@ dualipa / instagramGeneral trends have looked at larger stones for celebrities and the public – but the stars opt for declaration documents to distinguish them, told BBC New BBC News Rhona Fitzpatrick, founder and CEO of The Diamond Expert.
The rings identified on the fingers of different celebrities this year – like the horizontally unusual diamond of Zendaya and the round diamond of Dua Lipa on a large gold group – show a preference for a larger stone in a less traditional setting.
Even when celebrities stick to trends – like large oval diamonds – they tend to do it in an extravagant way which is more difficult to reproduce.
Matt Winkelmeyer / Wireimage via Getty ImagesCristiano Ronaldo’s partner Georgina Rodríguez, made the headlines when she shared a photo of the ring she received from the footballer earlier this month.
The huge oval cut rock is up to up to $ 5 million (3.7 million pounds sterling), said Fitzpatrick.
“This is not the kind of ring you would know in Tesco,” she added.
After the announcement of Rodríguez, some suppliers of bridal jewelry began to bring out their own sockets in the ring.
“It is much more difficult for everyday people to afford the same price,” said Ms. Fitzpatrick, adding that some jewelers opt rather for cheaper cultivated diamonds as a way to respond to a greater variety of styles.
@ Georginagio / InstagramThis alternative has been increasingly popular, said Ms. Fitzpatrick, adding that around 52% of global engagement rings now include diamonds cultivated in the laboratory.
Some customers also opt for ethical reasons cultivated in the laboratory – but Ms. Taylor said that the debate was not as simple as it seems.
The laboratory is not automatically more durable than natural extracted stones, as the process uses a large amount of energy.
Taylor said that some communities depend financially on industry and count on survival. However, there are concerns about working conditions in diamond mines.
“As long as you buy from a reliable source that cleanses the environment and takes care of the communities involved,” said Ms. Taylor, “you have to decide, what is more important for you?”
She added that ethics surrounding ancient diamonds like Swift is also complicated.
“Vintage can be more an ethical choice, but its origin and its history that you do not necessarily know,” said Taylor.
The purchase of old diamonds means no additional exploitation, but you also do not know what circumstances that have been extracted, “she added.
“If we are talking more than 100 years ago, this circumstance was probably not very pleasant.”
Buyers have turned more and more towards the reuse of vintage parts to create something more tailor -made, said Faulkner.
Couples often choose to reuse jewelry with a “story behind”, she said, like parents transmitted from parents.
Although we do not know if the Swift ring has a background, it is clearly satisfied with the choice. But if his words are something to pass, it is not the most important.
“I like brilliant things, but I would marry you with paper rings,” she sings in her song, rings of paper.
