Aaisha Ali: From Marine Biology to the Artemis Control Room
While humanity is preparing to return to the lunar surface, Aaisha Ali is behind the scenes guaranteeing the preparation for the mission for astronauts to orbit the moon during Artemis II.
Ali is the ground floor of Artemis at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. She ensures that her team has the necessary resources for the next giant jump on the moon and beyond.

Ali obtained a baccalaureate in biology from the Texas A & M University in Galveston before starting a career as a marine biologist. His curiosity for science and communication finally led him to study marine life to the sharing of the NASA mission with the public. With a set of solid skills that includes public relations, media relations and strategic communications, she continued to work at the Houston Space Center and later at Johnson in the protocol and digital images teams.
Today, Ali directs the field control team supporting Artemis II, ensuring that systems, simulations and procedures are ready for the mission. Its role includes the development of theft rules, the finalization of operations plans and training leaders – known as “network sims” – which prepare its team to respond quickly and effectively.
“Because I had a multifaceted career path, it gave me a different perspective,” she said. “The diversity of mentalities helps us to approach problems. Sometimes a different angle is exactly what we need. ”
Her point of view was also shaped by visits to her grandmother in the Caribbean when she was a child. “She lived in the tropical forest in a small village in Trinidad,” said Ali. “I had the chance to spend summers on the island and living a different way of life, which helped me become the person I am today.”
Communication, she explained, is just as critical as technical expertise. “When we realize the flight director, we are the experts in our system. But we must be clear and concise. You don’t have much time on the flight loop to explain. ”
This clarity, this humility and the sense of teamwork are values that Ali said to have shaped his journey.

For the future, Ali is particularly passionate about the inspiration of the Artemis generation – those who will one day explore the Moon and Mars. She often shares advice with her nieces and nephews, including a determined nephew who dreamed of becoming an astronaut since the age of 7.
“Do what you like and Nasa will find a place for you,” she said. “NASA is a big place. If you like the law, we have lawyers. If you like art, science or technology, there is a place for you. Passion is what we are looking for. ”
During her free time, Ali loves photography and connection with nature by camping and visiting national parks. She also likes to plan trips to Walt Disney World, meet new people, live different cultures and learn new things.
Even if his days are filled with simulations and mission preparation, Ali knows that the landing of astronauts on the lunar surface for Artemis III is not far behind.
“There is still a lot of climbing,” she said. “But we are ready.”
