The symbolism of the free display of the border patrol was not lost in the direction of the National Museum of the American Japanese, where the event took place.

The American border patrol produced a show of force outside the National Museum of the Japanese American where California Governor Gavin Newsom was holding a red -cutting press conference on Thursday, August 14, 2025 in Los Angeles.

We recently saw lightning of fascism from the Trump administration throughout the country, of its takeover from the Washington Police Department, DC, its deployment of the National Guard to the current arrests and the abolition of law -respecting immigrants with judicial dates at the New York Federal Plaza, to make raids to deposits and cars in Los Angeles in Los Angeles Angeles. On Thursday, however, there was a free demonstration of federal muscle at a Los Angeles event which had nothing to do with crime or immigration: a press conference by the Governor of California Gavin Newsom and other state officials announcing plans to redirect his state, and create more democratic seats in Congress, if the GOP of Texas goes to the opposite.
Dozens of masked and armed border patrol agents appeared during the press conference, held at the Japanese American Museum in Little Tokyo. The head of the regional border patrol, Gregory Bovino, said that his crew made “Los Angeles a safer place because we have no politicians who can do it. We do it ourselves ”. Some of his men have brandished rifles.
“They decided that they were going to come and let their nose go in front of the governor’s face,” the journalists told the mayor of Los Angeles. “It’s incredibly disrespectful. It is a provocative act.”
Newsom, who dragged Trump on social networks, imitating his ridiculous braggadocio and all-caps, immediately published via his press office on X: “Border Patrol presented itself to our great magnificent press conference! We will not be intimidated!”
Flanked by Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, Newsom also made fun of Trump during his remarks on the redistribution. “Who else sends ice [at the] At the same time, we have a conversation like this? Said Newsom. Someone who is broken. Someone whose weakness emerges from force.
The symbolism of harassment of the border patrol was not lost on the museum chair, William Fujioka. The museum is on the site where the Americans of Japanese origin who lived in Los Angeles “were invited to come here and to put buses and to send in the camps,” he said, calling for the demonstration of force “a parallel of what happened in 1942.”
While the Democrats appreciate the daring maneuver of Newsom – Kathy Hochul of New York, JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Wes Moore of Maryland all expressed their interest in similar movements – his redistribution initiative, that he labeled the “act of defense of electoral rigging”, is not given to pass it when the Democrats put it on the ball in November. It is underwater with all voters, especially the self -employed, after Newsom and other Democrats have spent years putting pressure for an independent bipartite commission to trace the limits of the congress, a system imposed in 2010.
Tuesday, hundreds of Angelenos, many of whom wore union t-shirts, protested against ice violence at MacArthur park. The demonstrators even said that legal immigrants are afraid of leaving their homes and reducing business for local merchants. “This is a hunt for people,” said a 40 -year -old local resident, who has lost his job in the clothing industry due to ice raids. He describes “panic” to “the idea of being detained and of being separated from my family”. However, he went out to protest anyway.
Current number

On Thursday, only one man was arrested by the border patrol near the press conference: a worker named Angel delivering strawberries to a small tokyo courthouse. (Dozens of agents of the border patrol, a prisoner. A great job, the chef cattle!) The colleague Carlos Franco came to check Angel and found him removed, his delivery van has always parked in front of the museum. He advised people “to be careful in general, whether you are undocumented or not”.
Also on Thursday, a person was killed by a SUV, because they were running away from an immigration raid in a Monrovia deposit, just south of Los Angeles. Way to make our cities safer, Mr. President.
Newsom, widely considered a competitor in 2028, alienated certain progressives at the start of Trump’s second term, when he welcomed wings like Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon on his podcast, suggested that Democrats may have to compromise transgender rights, and called the Crisis of Kilmar Ábrego García a “distraction” Cuisine that Democrats should address. But Trump’s assault on Los Angeles and its immigrant population made Newsom to the spine.
It is not clear if it has the political weight to cajolate voters to support his favorite cards, but he certainly drew their attention.
At this time of crisis, we need a unified and progressive opposition to Donald Trump.
We are starting to see a form in the streets and in the ballot boxes across the country: from the campaign of the candidate for the town hall of New York, Zohran Mamdani, attached to the affordability, to the communities protecting their neighbors from ice, to the senators opposing arms expeditions to Israel.
The Democratic Party has an urgent choice to make: will it embrace a policy that is based on principles and popular, or will it continue to insist on losing elections with the elites and the outside contact consultants that brought us here?
