Car ploughs into crowd outside LA nightclub, injuring 30

Thirty people were injured after a vehicle lines the crowd to enter a nightclub in Los Angeles.

Seven were seriously injured and six were in serious condition after the accident at East Hollywood, the Los Angeles (Lafd) fire service said.

A line of women mainly expected to enter the Vermont Hollywood music place when the car hit local time at 02:00 (9:00 GMT) on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Police Service (LAPD) said that when the police arrived, passers -by had dragged the Nissan Versa driver and attacked him. An attacker had shot the driver.

The driver was transported to hospital for surgery, added the LAPD. His condition is unknown.

The vehicle crossed a taco stand on a valet podium, then in the crowd, said the police.

Photos of the scene show a gray car on a sidewalk with debris dotted on the ground and a large police presence.

In a statement, the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, described the incident as “heartbreaking tragedy”.

“The heart of Angelenos is with all the victims affected this morning-a complete investigation into what happened is underway,” she said.

The victims were all taken to hospitals or trauma centers, said LAFD captain Adam Vangerpen, to journalists on the scene.

“It was a very chaotic scene,” said Capt Vangerpen, adding that “many club passers -by came out to help people”.
