‘Israeli red tape blocking Gaza aid, Kerem Shalom not a McDonald’s drive-through’
“The Israeli authorities are the only decision -makers on which, how and how much aid enters the Gaza Strip and the type of supplies that are authorized,” Stéphane Dujarric told “post”.
While hundreds of aid trucks are positioned near the Kerem Shalom Crossing, this is not the amount of aid or the number of trucks that are the problem, but rather the system, Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN STURISTER General António Guterres, The Jerusalem post THURSDAY.
“We have said ourselves that there were a lot of aid trucks waiting for Kerem Shalom,” Dujarric told the Job.
“But let’s be clear: the Israeli authorities are the only decision -makers on which, how and how much aid enters the Gaza Strip and the type of supplies that are allowed.”
According to Dujarric, the process of providing humanitarian supplies in the enclave torn by the war is charged with bureaucracy and safety restrictions which make basic deliveries even a logistics nightmare.
“To collect supplies that have reached one of the Israeli crossings around Gaza, our drivers need multiple access approvals, a break in bombing and iron doors to open,” he said. “And then there are more obstacles to try to get out of crossings and find safe roads.”

In frank terms, he added: “Kerem Shalom is not a drive from McDonald’s where we stop and collect what we have ordered. There are huge bureaucratic and security obstacles that have been imposed on us. ”
Dujarric also rejected the idea that military escorts are a viable solution to the dangers facing humanitarian convoys.
“We saw what happened Sunday in North Gaza with the convoy of PAM (World Food Program). We saw the victims. We saw death,” he said, referring to the deadly attack on multiple humanitarian workers who died or injured despite their support for armed forces.
“The best protection for us is community membership,” said Dujarric. “And to obtain this community membership, communities must understand that the trucks will come every day – this food will come every day. This is what we ask.”
Tsahal meets the charges that Israel causes famine to Gaza
The FDI said on Tuesday that there was not yet famine in Gaza, despite global claims; However, the number of trucks sitting on the Gaza border is not brought to the Gazans, is a record.
A senior FDI official met the main UN bureaucrats on Tuesday concerning the issue, demanding how they could accuse Israel of provoking famine in Gaza, which, once again, has not yet happened, but may soon be that the UN continues to abandon its trucks.
According to the senior FDI official, the United Nations bureaucrats sat quietly for at least 20 seconds, find it difficult to make an answer. Finally, one of them said they would make a more concerted effort to move the trucks, said the IDF.
The FDI provided several reasons for which the United Nations trucks were seated near the border. Some had to do with the United Nations refusal to respect the regulations of the FDIs concerning the products which could be imported and which could not, something that the FDI could mitigate by temporarily lowering its standards.
However, other reasons concerned the reluctance of the United Nations to move in certain areas that the FDI affirmed were secure, but which the UN did not accept at its nominal value, refusing to move forward.
