Censure Frenzy: How Congress turned a rare rebuke into a routine weapon

The House of Representatives censored the late Roderick Butler, R-Tenn., In 1870 for having taken a bridge pot for an appointment of the Military Academy.

The room also censored the deceased representative Thomas Blanton, D-Texas, in 1921 for having inserted a document in the Congress file which contained an obscene language.

And the deceased representative Gerry Studds, D-MASS., Faced censorship in 1983 for having sex with a 17-year page.

“When we all try to reduce the political temperature, when we all try to work to be able to approach our differences with humanity and we stand out from political violence, it is the bad decision,” said Katherine Clark, D-Mass of the home minority.

But the legislators on both sides are tired of the censorship trap.

“Whenever a republican in this house is offended, he is piling up on the resolution of censorship,” said representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dn.y. “I’m not here to fight for everything for people’s courts for the day.”

Mace excused his republican colleagues who voted for table.

“They did not stand with Charlie Kirk. They did not support themselves with the millions of Americans crying his death. They stood with the one who made fun of his inheritance. They showed us exactly who they are. And we will not forget,” said Mace in a statement.

But censorship is now in vogue.
