Woman’s Meal on 10 Hour Flight Called a Crime—She Insists It ‘Didn’t Smell’

When Jess Marra climbed on her 10 -hour Los Angeles flight in Paris, she did not plan to trigger a debate on epic online proportions.
In a now viral video on Instagram with more than 8,000 likes and thousands of comments, Marra, 33, explained how she had decided to exchange plane food for a house alternative, bringing the ingredients of her salad on the flight and the assembly herself.
The ingredients included vegetables, vinaigrette and the most divisor – a hard egg. The legend said: “Make my own healthy dinner on a 10-hour free will in British Columbia.”
“I don’t like food by plane and I have allergies, so bring my own meals, especially on long -haul flights – is my favorite option. Most of the time, I take a sandwich or a salad to bring with me. But this special day was chaos – I rushed to do it too much. Nowsweek.

But after sharing the moment when she prepared her own lunch in half-voltage, the reaction was really unexpected when the commentators expressed their fury.
“Eating eggs on a plane should be a crime,” said Instagram user Sarahbheta. While Ishouldstillbeinbed wrote: “No one loves you on this flight ….. Nobody.”
The plane label is an endless online debate, which often causes strong feelings and reactions. Last year, a Viral Reddit position shared 9 “rules” of the plane label, and the number one was: “Do not eat food that felt, if it’s a long flight, be courteous and choose harmless snacks.”
While a Yougov survey in 2024 with 1,152 American citizens asked where the Americans sit on which behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable on a plane. Among the respondents, 68% said that eating food with a strong smell was unacceptable when traveling.
Some viewers have joined the defense of Marra. “I cannot believe that people so personally attacked by the egg,” said Whitneymbuckley. While Mrs__Rogers_ wrote: “The eggs do not stink an plane. It was a very intelligent idea. And a 10 -hour flight is very long.”
Taylorludnall wrote: “Unbearable”.
“I recognize that shaking a house salad halfway around is a little more,” said Marra. “But I was in a window seat next to my husband, and really no one seemed to notice.”
Except, of course, the internet.
Marra’s greatest criticisms assumed that she had smuggled the cutlery before the ASD, an affirmation that she refutes. “It was the knife supplied by Delta in premium class. Nothing summary – I promise!”
While some online claimed to be traumatized by the video salad video, Marra sees the debate as part of a broader conversation on performative indignation.
“Most airlines are literally used eggs. Breakfast on this flight included eggs,” she said. “But in a way, a woman while quietly eating one that she brought is because of a digital riot.”
Despite the backlash – some of the latter crossing a threatening territory – Marra remains imperturbable. “Would I have brought my own food again? Absolutely. Would I make a salad again at my seat? Probably not,” she said. “I am happy to go back to the prepared sandwich road. But the egg remains.”
