CFD battles large apartment building fire on South Side

Chicago firefighters are battling a major fire at a South Chicago apartment building Tuesday evening.

Helicopter 7 was on scene around 5 p.m. Large flames and black smoke were coming from the Chatham Building near 79th Street and Calumet Avenue.

A large emergency response also took place in the region. Some roads seemed blocked.

It is not clear what caused the fire or if anyone was injured.

The Chicago Fire Department said shortly after 5:20 p.m. that the fire had been extinguished.
