Chalkfest at Sandburg, Palos Citizens Police Academy

Chalkfest in Sandburg featured a “Cars” mural
Students at Sandburg High School in Orland Park have once again launched Artober with Chalkfest, creating a 16-foot by 37-foot chalk mural that represents contributions from all art classes.
Guest artist Adam Fabianski once again joined Eagles to help design, arrange and refine the mural.
The mural covered the sidewalk in the north parking lot until the rain arrived. “For seven hours, students in each art class participated in the student-chosen theme, Disney’s ‘Cars,’ and helped Sandburg kick off art month, Artober,” art teacher Wes Gonzalez said in a press release.

Foundation offers free lunches at Silver Cross
The Jay It Forward Foundation, founded by Michele and Tom Vana, last month offered 1,000 free lunches to staff, patients and visitors at Silver Cross Hospital outside the entrance to its outpatient testing center, Pavilion A.
The project was done in memory of their son Jay, who died following a car accident in September 2012. The foundation performs a random act of kindness in the community each year to mark this anniversary.
This is not the first time the Vanas family has contributed to Silver Cross. Three years ago, they made a donation to the hospital to support Will County’s first and only Level III neonatal intensive care unit at Silver Cross Hospital, according to a news release. The hospital named it the Amy, Matthew and Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, after the couple’s triplets. The couple also improved the hospital’s emergency services and paramedic training program in 2017, alongside Tom’s mother, Marilyn Kurtz.
