ChatGPT is launching a new dedicated Health portal

OpenAI is launching a new facet of its AI chatbot called ChatGPT Health. This new feature will allow users to connect medical records and wellness apps to ChatGPT to get more personalized responses to queries about their health. The company noted that there would be additional privacy safeguards for this separate space within ChatGPT and said it would not use conversations held in Health to train foundational models. ChatGPT Health is currently in the testing phase and there are some regional restrictions on which health apps can be connected to the AI company’s platform.
OpenAI’s announcement acknowledges that this new development “is not intended for diagnosis or treatment,” but it bears repeating. No part of ChatGPT, or any other artificial intelligence chatbot, is qualified to provide any type of medical advice. Not only are these platforms capable of making dangerously incorrect statements, but transmitting such personal and private information to a chatbot is generally not a recommended practice. It seems particularly reckless to share with a company that didn’t bother to pay even cursory attention to the psychological impacts of its product after at least one teenager used the chatbot to plan his own suicide.
