It’s the time of the NFL offseason where players are on vacation with their families and enjoying some downtime, but not Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

After suffering a season-ending torn ACL, Mahomes is working vigorously to recover and be ready for Week 1 of next season.

It’s an ambitious goal, with some wanting Patrick to take it slowly and even have the whole year off.

But we know that’s not how Patrick is set up.

And head coach Andy Reid updated us on the progress Mahomes is making in his recovery.

“He’s here all the time, he spends an awful lot of time here, seven hours a day,” Reid said. “He’s in there, he’s improving every day, it’s great to see. Him and Julie [Frymyer]she picks on him and makes sure he stays on task and challenges him, and he keeps showing up.

“So that’s half the battle on these things, when you have these injuries, you come in and it’s not going to be a pleasant thing every day. You have to fight and overcome the challenge of training and rehab. So, he does a great job with that.”

Will Mahomes compete in Week 1?

Well, that’s the point, and if Patrick spends seven hours a day in rehab, you’d be an idiot to be against him.

But if we’re being honest, for Patrick to be ready to participate in Week 1, he would likely need a few months of training camp conditioning, which means he’ll need to be cleared to participate for about three months.

Can this happen? Be skeptical about this, but who knows, players come back early all the time, and Patrick might be the last one to do so.

But the Chiefs will be careful because the last thing the franchise wants is for the number 15 to rush in and immediately collapse.

It’s nightmare fuel.
