Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Gives Major Update on NFL Future and Retirement

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce was rumored to retire at the end of the 2024 season, but that was not the case. The Chiefs were trounced by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, and that caused Kelce to want to run it back for one more season.

Kelce revealed that he would return one more season on his “New Heights Podcast,” stating:

“I think the biggest thing is that I f—— love playing the game of football,” he said. “I love playing. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don’t think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record and how I’ve been in years past. I want to give it a good run. I got a bad taste in my mouth in how I ended last year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was to the people around me.”

Now, Kelce has opened up in a new way, offering a major update on his plans past the 2025 season. He joined the “Bussin With the Boys Podcast” and spoke candidly about whether he plans to retire following 2025 or sign with a new team, given the opportunity.

When Kelce is asked if this could be his final year playing, and his final year with the Chiefs, the tight end said:

“I mean, it’s the last one on the contract. I’m focused on this one, man. I don’t know what next year is gonna feel like. I don’t know what I’m gonna feel like in March and April next year when I make that decision, or I try and figure out what’s next for me.

I know that I got one on the contract, and a hell of a f****** team. We got a lot of f****** talent, and I’m pumped for it.”

Kelce not only alluded to potentially stepping away from the NFL for good, but he also alluded to potentially stepping away from the Chiefs. It would be quite difficult to deal with him joining another team in the twilight years of his professional career, but that often happens with most players.

Either way, Kelce and the Chiefs have one more year together, and though they lost to the Eagles in the Super Bowl — expect this team to come out firing in 2025. The Chiefs remain the team to beat in the AFC.
