Dyson Deals: WIRED’s Top Pick Pet Vacuum and Purifier-Heater

For a void company, Dyson can sometimes feel like a church nerd. His devices are a hive of inventions: often cool, always expensive, and sometimes the best (or only) device of their kind. Its line of vacuum cleaners in particular offer more features than a ’90s multiplex, and so many models might as well be Paris during fashion week.

As with all big-ticket items, it’s best to buy a Dyson when it’s on sale. Dyson has chosen the heart of winter to offer great sales on some of WIRED’s favorite vacuum cleaners and heaters. There’s a lot to sort through the Dyson lineup, but luckily WIRED has spent years sorting the Dyson wheat from the Dyson chaff.

The $350 sale on Dyson’s budget V8 is a pretty standard deal, easy to find at this price for much of the last year. WIRED also tends to recommend that you look for Dyson V11 models priced under $400, but this $190 deal on the V11 Extra is still a decent discount if you’re in the market.

Best vacuum for pet hair: $250 off the Dyson Gen5 Detect

WIRED reviewer and cat lover Molly Higgins says she’s obsessed with the Dyson Gen5 Detect cordless vacuum, her pick as the best vacuum for pet hair on the market. It’s largely a mix of versatility and power: it can work as either a lightweight cordless stick vacuum or a small handheld vacuum, but still offers as much oomph as you’d expect from a corded vacuum. Importantly for pet owners, it also offers powerful HEPA filtration. For those who like to play spring cleaning, the device has a digital display that tracks the particle size of each mite and mote you’ve sucked into the filter. It’s not the best deal we’ve ever seen, but it’s the best since Black Friday.

Best purifier-heater combo: $160 off HP01 Hot + Cool

The HP1 Hot+Cool is the latest update to Dyson’s long line of combo heaters, coolers and purifiers. These include a HEPA and carbon air filter, an app-enabled air quality sensor, a generally accurate thermometer, a cooling fan, and a resistance heater. It also looks a bit like a faceless droid and is certainly larger and more dominant in a room than other heaters and fans. But I found it to be the most sophisticated air management tool I’ve ever tested. It’s usually priced accordingly, but it’s currently $160, which is about as good as the best deals we’ve seen on this still-new device.
