'Ghost forests' could be key to understanding coastal resilience to climate change

Rising sea levels contribute to a phenomenon called “ghost forests,” which are groups of dead or dying trees that have been drowned by saltwater intrusion. And all across the eastern United States, where bright green trees once stood, clusters of bare, gray trunks are appearing. Now, researchers say that studying the water cycle in ghost forests could be key to understanding how coastal forest ecosystems respond to climate change.
