Mohamed Sabry Soliman was charged last week on 12 counts of hatred crimes in the June 1 attack in downtown Boulder. He is accused of having tried to kill the eight people injured when he threw Molotov cocktails – bottles filled with flammable liquid that are ignited – as well as other people nearby.
Soliman’s lawyer David Kraut pleaded not guilty in the name of Soliman during a hearing on Friday. Soliman was represented by public defenders who do not comment on their cases to the information media.
The DA office said that it improved the accusations against Soliman to include two first -degree murder leaders, both concerning the death of Diamond, CBS News Colorado reported on Monday. These charges were previously listed as a criminal attempt to commit first degree murder, but were changed after his death. The first count is a first -degree murder under a theory of extreme indifference and the second count is a first degree murder with intention after the deliberation.

Soliman did not speak during the hearing last week, and he listened to the translations provided by an Arab interpreter via headphones.

The Egyptian national illegally lives in the United States with his family, according to the federal authorities.
Soliman passed a gardener and wore a construction vest to get closer to the group before launching the attack, according to the prosecutors.
Suleiman would have declared during his interrogation that he had planned the attack for about a year, in order to “kill all the Zionists”, as he said. He noted that he had chosen the specific date that after his daughter obtained his graduate of secondary studies. Suleiman added that he was planning to use a firearm, but since he could not buy a weapon because of his legal status, he went to an alternative plan with Molotov Cocktails. He said, “At the time of the truth, I was afraid of injuring more people, so I stopped after two bottles – but yes, I would do it again.”
Prosecutors say that the victims were targeted due to their perceived or real national origin. An attack motivated by someone’s political opinions is not considered a crime of hatred under federal law.
