Commanders GM has huge praise for returning veteran offensive lineman

“I can’t say enough good things about him, the person and the player.”
Washington Commanders GM Adam Peters said, speaking to the media on Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. When asked about the re-signing of veteran offensive lineman Andrew Wylie, Peters launched into his response.

Peters spoke of Wylie’s selflessness, talent and willingness to go wherever the Commanders need him to go. It is not an easy task, but Wylie is both durable and mobile enough to play all four positions of guards and tackles.
“He’s what we would call a true Commander, in terms of his work ethic, his competitiveness. He’s an elite teammate,” continued the third-year general manager for the Commanders. “He’s super versatile. I mean, he can line up at four spots (left guard, left tackle, right guard, right tackle). So, he’s super valuable.”
If a starting guard or tackle goes down to injury, Peters knows he can count on Wylie to get out there, fight and contribute to the offensive line’s need at the time. Wylie truly wants to be in the league in whatever way he can at this point (32 in August) of his NFL career.
“I think he’s still got enough talent to start. So he was a priority for us to bring back. There’s a number of those guys, but Andrew was at or near the top of that, and we’re thrilled to have him back, and I just can’t say enough good things about him.”

Winning solves everything. Everyone is in a good mood when you’re winning. But what about when a 12-5 team, the next season, loses eight consecutively on their way to 5-12? “I think I learned a lot about him this year and the type of human being he is. We had a contract we had to restructure last year, and the way he responded to that was better than I could ever have imagined myself responding. He is an outstanding person, a team-first person. Being around him for another year as a human being and understanding what he means to that room and to the offense in general was really impactful in different ways.”
Succinctly about Wylie, Peters offered, “The more of the guys like that, you have on your team, the better your team’s going to be.”
