Community news: Doula workshop and extra South Shore trains for Pride Parade

The Master Gardener program is looking for a new harvest of volunteers

A basic training course Purdue Extension Master Garden will be offered to residents of the County of Lake and the surrounding area from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday from August 15 to December 5 at the Lake County office, 2291 N. Main St., Crown Point. The course is a volunteer training program designed to increase the knowledge of participants on a wide variety of horticultural subjects. In turn, the participants represent the Purchain University as volunteers sharing their knowledge and their services in the gardening activities of education within their communities. Materials and expenses for the series of classes cost $ 190 per participant, including a manual linked in a spiral; $ 215 for a manual linked to the spiral and digital. South Shore to offer increased trains for the Chicago Pride parade

To adapt to an expected increase in the traffic of the Chicago Pride parade, the South Shore Line (SSL) will offer additional passenger trains on Sunday. In the morning, two extras of passengers in west will operate in front of the existing trains. These additional trains will not serve South Bend, Hudson Lake, Beverly Shores, Gary Metro Center or Gary / Chicago Airport. Additional trains in the west direction will go to Carroll Avenue at 7:24 a.m. and 8:27 am in the afternoon, two additional trains of passengers in the direction are providing additional service to runners leaving Chicago. The extras in the direction are served Millennium and Van Buren St., will occur constantly in Hegewisch and will make the end of all local stops in Carroll Ave. These additional trains will not serve the museum campus, 57th Street, Hudson Lake or South Bend. The additional trains in the direction are from the Millennium station at 3:20 p.m. and 4:57 p.m. As a reminder, the South Shore Line reserves the right to remove the disorderly passengers. Alcohol is prohibited for all trains on Sunday. Remember that glass bottles are prohibited at all times. Day of the conservation of conservation products

Franciscan Health Crown Point to welcome the Doula workshop

Franciscan Health Crown Point is organizing a Doula certification workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from July 19 to 20 and July 26 to 27 at Franciscan Health Crown Point, 12750 St. Francis Drive. Participants must be 18 or more and attend the four days of lessons to receive a completion certificate. Doulas are trained professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional and informative support to their customers before, during and shortly after childbirth. A doula can help communicate the birth plan of a woman, create a comfortable environment during childbirth or simply provide the general support that a family can seek during this pivotal period. A doula does not perform clinical tasks. The birth center of the Franciscan Health Crown Point family offers free customs services to families thanks to a volunteer doula program. The workshop fulfills two certification requirements as a Dona certified Doula certified birth: Introduction to childbirth and training in the birth of the Doula.
