AI Slop Has Shattered My Trust in Google Pixel Phones

I was not a google guy long, but I still considered pixel phones as devices that I could easily recommend to others. Google’s approach to AI has changed this. I no longer feel comfortable using or recommending these phones.
There were many reasons to recommend pixel phones
Google Pixel phones are the successors of the previous range of Google Nexus devices. Nexus phones had to present Android without the changes that most Android phones manufacturers applied. They were darling devices for those of us who did not want samsung’s touchwiz or htc sense, but in Android stock.
The Pixel brand never concerned Android. Instead, it’s about presenting Google, which is why I never wanted a pixel phone. I love Android, but as I mentioned at the top, I’m not a fan of Google. I know – it’s unusual in Android World, but I’m not a fan of Apple either. Android is a much more diverse ecosystem in which play, even if you are someone who withdraw Googles from his phone.
However, for other people who just want a phone with a relatively simple interface, it does not cost much and comes with many years of software support – it was difficult not to recommend a pixel. These are not bad phones. The fact that they serve as a target for so much personalized Roma is another great attraction that even tries to private life like me.
Google was reckless with new AI features
With the evolution of the economy of attention and the always invasive nature of ad-tech, the use of a smartphone felt an exercise to protect me from my own device. I uncheck most boxes and refuse almost everything I can during the initial configuration process. I remove most of the Google Bloatware that companies have been forced to ship if they wish to give access to the Play Store. Google is anxious to keep my data private, but preferably on its servers. He wants to protect my information by being the only one authorized to exploit it.
The AI has brought the need for vigilance to a whole new level. Google doesn’t just want me to use its various services. He wants me to channel my life more in Gemini and various AI tools. And even if I abandoned the Gmail and Google applications years ago, at least these services were good and reliable – I only abandoned them on concerns about privacy. With AI, it is not only the intimacy that concerns me, but the quality.
I reviewed the Pixel 9 Pro last year, and it was the only product that I felt disturbed to cover in depth, largely, due to the fact that Pixel Studio is a main characteristic to test. Here is a tool that would transform a few lines of text in what are often involuntarily grotesque images. I left disgusted that a company would send this on a phone to millions of people on a phone.
As a general AI in general, the results cannot trust
In my time limited with the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel Studio has done many more images than it did well. A request for home keys would make me keys in the shape of a house. Ask for a laptop made the keyboard half of the device without screen. And when I asked for a hand with five fingers, it showed me a human hand with seven. My publisher advised me to leave the last, but here are examples of the other numbers of my Pixel 9 Pro Review for Makeuseof.
Pixel Studio was presented alongside Pixel from last year. And the Pixel 10? The main features of the head software are this time are Magic cue and the reinforced AI-Ai zoom. Are they good? It depends on what you think of AI.
Magic Cue is fortunately based on the treatment on devices only, but it is struck or missed to deliver its promised self-légères depending on what it sees on the screen. As for 100x zoom, well, zoom in on the text transforms the letters into Gibberish Tell-Tale, which is enough for me. I do not want a photo gallery where I cannot say what photos are real and which are mainly generated by AI.
Then there are Gemini itself. Like any chatbot, it can be described as a rather than truthful truth. This is often things to become a tool on which you depend on, but the fastest way to achieve your shortcomings is to ask him a question about something you know a lot. When you see how it is wrong there, it is enough for me to get uncomfortable for what I know much less. I prefer to test my luck in search of answers in the research results – the service that Google deteriorates quickly and cannibalise.
Like my colleague Tim Brooks, who does not use AI despite the media threshing of everyone around him, I find the results that AI offers a reason alone to be tired of all this fashion.
I ignore these features, but I cannot assume that the others
When I asked Pixel Studio images of characters protected by copyright, it showed them, and often in a malformed manner. I could not imagine giving this device to a child, even older, for reasons too similar to the reason why I do not let my children use YouTube children. We recommended safe alternatives to YouTube children almost a decade ago, and Google has still not solved the problem. But in the case of Pixel Studio, it is not the fact that Google does not filter the worrying videos made by pranks which are the problem – Google is now the one that generates disturbing images.
I do not want my children to become dependent on a generative AI at a stage of their life when their state of mind is always “adults have done this, so it must be good”. It takes years of first -hand experience to discern the way adults will drop you, and the creeping distribution of AI tools to minors is one.
However, this is not just a scenario “think of children”. As a technology enthusiast, I know all of this, how to avoid it, and that these features exist to be deactivated in the first place. Most standards simply use the products offered. I do not want to give these tools to my parents or my peers more than I want to give them to my children.
AI ruins pixel phones when the equipment becomes great
There are a lot of tragedies here, but one is timing. Pixel equipment finally crushes it. Pixel 9 was a delicious phone to hold. The Pixel 10 continues which refinements and adds Pixel Snap, introducing the management of the Magsafe accessories. In a sign of knowing how far we have arrived since the Nexus days, I now envy the pixels equipment than Apple. There are a lot of material features of pixels that I hope that other copies.
It was at this moment of Peak Google Hardware (and even advanced Android software with an attractive design like Material 3 expressive), that the main objective has moved to unreliable and high energy intensity tools. To be clear, Google’s AI tools are not only bad. Just the opposite – they are among the best. But unlike Apple, a reluctant company being pushed to introduce AI by its shareholders, Google enthusiastically leads the charge.
For Google, concerns about precision and quality are secondary to be first and attract as many users as possible.
Google showed me, thanks to the rampant data harvest of its many services, and now with its large deployment of AI tools which generate sometimes inaccurate or disturbing results, whether it is not a technological business of which I make decisions. And it makes me difficult, in good conscience, to recommend the phone whose reason is to present these features.
