Conversation Rather Than Location Is the Secret to a Successful First Date
One of the most stressful parts of planning a first appointment is to choose the ideal place. Do you stay traditional and take them dinner and a film? Be more adventurous and choose an unexpected and exciting place? What if you choose the wrong place and ruin your shot until you even have a chance?
According to a new study, published in CollaborationYou can rest easily. When it comes to a first meeting, the location does not really matter – it’s all about conversation.
“It is not necessarily the environment where the interaction takes place which makes the greatest difference, but rather the quality of interaction and conversation,” said Daisi Brand, corresponding author of the study of the University of Georgia, in a press release. “It may not be how comfortable space and the physical environment are, but really how comfortable you feel.”
Date conversation on the location
To find out if the location really counts when he gets to know someone for the first time, the researchers randomly paired 200 participants in pairs. These pairs were then divided into two groups: a group that experienced a first appointment in a pleasant place and the other which made its first appointment in a dull place. The beautiful location included comfortable furniture and lighting suitable for mood, while the ordinary location had hardwood chairs and was full of waste.
Once placed in these places, participants used the paradigm of fast friends, a set of 36 questions aimed at improving their ability to know someone.
The researchers found that the pairs succeeded and deeply linked to each other, whatever their location. Even after a month, the participants of the two places at the first meeting said they always have affectionate feelings for their date partner and for the experience as a whole.
“I think that the reason we have not found any differences between these contexts is due to the significant conversations that were going on in the two spaces. The participants said they were knowing that they were not in an attractive setting, but they always felt close or romantically attracted by the other person,” Brand said in the press release.
The only difference recorded between the two locations was that the pairs on the more pleasant location wanted to better know their partner thereafter, both emotionally and physically.

The study shows that stress on the location of a first date should be low on your priority list.
