Corey Adams death: Mississippi freshman lineman dies in shooting at 18

The first -year defensive line of Mississippi, Corey Adams, was shot dead Saturday evening near Memphis, Tenn. He was 18 years old.

Adams was a three-star recruit from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans. Her Alma Mater published a tribute Sunday morning on Facebook.

“This is an article that we never want to have to do and the words cannot describe this type of pain. We have a broken and tormented heart,” published the Karr Cougar football account.

“Corey Adams was more than a football player! He was a friend, a brother, a son, a student and all around the big young man. We do not question God, but it is that which we simply do not understand. It was not supposed to be the end of his story but we are going # must.”

The Sheriff’s Bureau of the county of Shelby (Tenn.) Said in a press release that he was investigating on a shooting that had taken place around 10:14 p.m. Saturday evening outside a residence in Cordova.

“When the deputies arrived at the intersection of Forest Hill-Irene and Walnut Grove, they stopped a vehicle, finding a victim of an adult shot,” said the sheriff. “They provided rescue measures until the arrival of fires from the county of Shelby. The fire staff of the county of Shelby then declared the victim who died on the scene. ”

A second statement, published a few hours later, Sunday morning, identified the victim as Adams.

The Sheriff department also noted that “four adult men arrived by personal vehicles in hospitals in the region with ball injury. The four victims are listed in a non -critical state. ”

The shooting is an active investigation into homicides, said the department.

According to his biography of the Mississippi, Adams was a selection twice for All-State which had 19 bags, 62 plated (21 for the loss), a escape and four strikers spend its last year. 247 Sports reports that he has received offers from 17 schools – including USC, Louisiana, Oregon, Texas A&M and the state of Mississippi – before signing with the rebels.

He signed up for the Mississippi in January. Months later, Adams published photos on Instagram of himself participating in spring training.

Mississippi football said in a post X (formerly Twitter) that it was “devastated” to learn the death of Adams.

“While our program tries to face this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult period,” wrote the rebels. “Out of respect for his family, we will not comment any more for the moment. We ask the OLE Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and to respect the privacy of all those involved. ”
