FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said he will have a conversation with George Pickens about the receiver’s social media post, which he has since deleted, in response to criticism he received from former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman on the Prime Video show Thursday.

“I am aware of what is supposed to have been broadcast,” Schottenheimer said Friday. “I haven’t spoken to him yet. I understand it’s been taken down, but I’m going to speak to him, just to check on him. Again, these are unfortunately things that we deal with in this profession. But I haven’t spoken to him, but I will.”

Sherman said Pickens seemed “uninterested” and “disengaged” by the Cowboys’ 44-30 loss to the Detroit Lions. Pickens caught five passes for 37 yards and failed to catch more than 10 yards in a game for the first time this season.

“For me, personally, you can’t just disappear,” Pickens said after the game, while saying Sherman should have understood the type of media coverage he was facing from the Lions, especially after CeeDee Lamb was forced out of the game with a concussion in the third quarter.

Pickens was more pointed Friday with the social media post he later deleted, writing in part, “It’s funny because I thought the former players would know,” calling out Sherman and adding “WHO BTW IS NOT SHH WITHOUT THE LEGION OF BOOM.”

Schottenheimer said he didn’t see a lack of effort on Pickens’ part when he rewatched the film Friday.

“I don’t think any of us coached or played well enough,” Schottenheimer said. later adding: “Overall, I’m going to judge George on his work, man. His work, he showed what an elite player he is and how much of a game changer he is. I have no doubt. We were talking about CeeDee a few weeks ago, weren’t we. CeeDee was coming off a tough match. [three drops], [against] Philadelphia, I guess, maybe. And you look at CeeDee and the way he played last night, it’s just incredible. He was on pace for probably over 200 yards before having to come out with a concussion. »

Pickens has career highs in catches (78), yards (1,179) and touchdowns (8), all of which rank in the top 10 in the NFL.

As for Lamb, who had six catches for 121 yards before leaving the game, he is in the concussion protocol. The Cowboys won’t play again until December 14.

“He had a good day [Friday]” Schottenheimer said of Lamb, “but he has to go through all the checks and balances of it all. I think these extra few days will hopefully help him.”
