Obsidian Notes Just Got a Big Update

Obsidian is one of the most popular apps for taking notes, especially for anyone interested in having full control of their own data. Now, the new Obsidian 1.19.12 update has dramatically improved the search and synchronization functions, among other improvements.
Obsidian 1.9.12 is now rolling out for desktop platforms with a few new features. First, there’s a new migration assistant for Obsidian Sync, which allows you to perform migrations for your remote Sync vaults. Obsidian uses end-to-end encryption, so even if you’re storing notes on Obsidian servers, your data is secured with a password you create and whatever encryption option is supported at the time. With this update, you can easily update the encryption method for your vaults.
If there’s an encryption upgrade available for your notes, you’ll see an “Upgrade vault encryption” option under Obsidian Settings > Sync. The company also says the ability to move notes regions is coming “in the future.”
The other main improvement here is “dramatically improved” performance for the search function. The team didn’t share any details about that, but search results should now appear instantly as you type, which is certainly helpful.
Obsidian v1.9 also adds some built-in checks for plugins known to cause issues. Commander v0.5.3 caused the mobile toolbar to take up the entire screen, but that has been fixed in the latest update to that plugin, so you just need to install the update. Another plugin called Image Toolkit is breaking Obsidian’s menus, so it’s disabled until an update is available.
