Star progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Democrat of Texas, conceded her race for U.S. Senate after suffering an “embarrassing” defeat to a lesser-known Democrat, state Rep. James Talarico.
A second-term congressman widely considered one of the leading voices in the Democratic Party, Crockett lost his primary to Talarico. The defeat not only dashes Crockett’s hopes of serving in the Senate, but also casts doubt on his political future as his House term ends in January.
After an initial outburst on election night in which she blamed Republicans for failing against Talarico, Crockett acknowledged defeat in a post Wednesday morning on social media.
Crockett said she called Talarico Wednesday morning and “congratulated him on becoming a Senate candidate.”

She urged Democrats for unity, saying Texas was “ready to go blue” and declaring, “We have to stay united because this is bigger than any one person.”
“This is about the future of 30 million Texans and putting America back on track,” she said, adding, “With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally behind our candidates and win. I am committed to doing my part and will continue to work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”
Memes of Crockett with the caption “STRAIGHT OUTTA CONGRESS” quickly began circulating on X.
Independent conservative journalist Nick Sortor posted on social media: “BREAKING: Jasmine Crockett LOST the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Texas, ending her congressional career. Jasmine had to decline re-election to her current seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in order to run for Senate, so she will be OUT after this year. Goodbye!”
Popular conservative influencer David Freeman, who goes by “Gunther Eagleman,” wrote: “Dear Jasmine Crockett, Waffle House in Dallas is hiring. Sincerely, America.”
Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty mocked Crockett, writing that she “storms out of her own event after shouting ‘they cheated!’ following his sudden loss. She said REPUBLICANS rigged elections in areas with high black populations. »

Daugherty called the results an “embarrassing defeat” for Crockett. He joked, “Wow, the racist Democratic voters in Texas just voted against a black queen! How shameful.”
Libs from TikTok reposted a video of Crockett dancing in the hallway of a congressional office, with the caption “Bye Jasmine!”
“Jasmine Crockett basically gave up her seat to run for Senate…And she just LOST the Democratic Senate primary,” TikTok Libs mocked.
This comes after Crockett spent much of the race accusing many of his critics of opposing his candidacy on racial grounds.
In January, after podcasters and comedians Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang told listeners not to “waste” their money supporting his campaign, Crockett railed: “I really think the host said the silent part out loud, which basically was: If a white man couldn’t do it, then why would a black woman even have the audacity to think she could?”
She also criticized other attack ads as racist, saying, “I see when they send out ads and they blacken my skin. And I’m just like, I know what that is, right?”

Crockett’s campaign had been widely criticized as being out of step with Texas voters from day one, when her campaign announcement video was a simple photo of her to the sound of President Donald Trump mocking her as “low IQ.”
Commenter Savanah Hernandez wrote: “As we say goodbye to Jasmine Crockett, never forget the campaign ad she released in which Trump called her a ‘low IQ person’ for 30 seconds straight. A true work of art that will never be forgotten.

Al Robinson, an African-American author, responded: “When your campaign message is built on hatred…on division…and on mocking entire groups of people…voters eventually get fed up. »
“Representative Jasmine Crockett has tried to build a brand on insults… calling people ‘white tears,’ making Nazi comparisons and making politics nothing more than an outrage circus. But here’s the uncomfortable reality. Leadership requires stability. Leadership requires accountability. Leadership requires building something… not just tearing people down,” Robinson said, concluding: “When your entire political strategy is built on insults rather than solutions… the result is predictable. You lose.
The Texas Senate seat is a crucial race for both the Republican Party and Democrats. Who wins the November general election will likely be a determining factor in which party holds a majority in the House. On the Republican side of the aisle, longtime incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is heading into a runoff election with challenger state Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Crockett and Talarico did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
