Cold temperatures to remain through NYC, tristate after storm

Snow will stop falling in New York on Monday, but freezing temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week, forecasters say.
Temperatures will peak around 31 degrees Monday, allowing Sunday’s snow to stay on the ground, National Weather Service meteorologists predicted.
“All precipitation Monday will be light and trends are toward lower probabilities,” NWS meteorologists warned Sunday afternoon. “Another burst of arctic air will follow the winter storm Monday evening, continuing a long period of temperatures well below normal.”
Monday afternoon is expected to be the hottest time of the week. Tuesday evening, the minimum temperature will reach 5 degrees in Central Park, forecasters said. From Wednesday to Saturday, the daily maximum temperature is expected to only reach between 19 and 23 degrees. Temperatures will be lower for much of the week.
Despite Sunday’s heavy snow, the MTA said subways and buses will operate on a normal schedule Monday. The system continued to operate despite Sunday’s storm, but with delays and few or no express lines.
“Everything has gone well. There are delays, there are service adjustments, but all the subway lines, ladies and gentlemen, are working,” MTA President Janno Lieber told WCBS.
Everything didn’t go so well on Monday. Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will operate on a Sunday schedule to open the work week, the MTA said. NJ Transit, which suspended service Sunday afternoon, had not yet made a decision on Monday’s plan.

The coldest day this week is expected to be Friday, as temperatures will drop to 6 degrees in Central Park on Thursday night and only reach 19 degrees the next day.
“Wind chills each night through Saturday evening will be near or below zero,” NWS meteorologists wrote. “Cold weather advisories may eventually be necessary, particularly Tuesday evening and Thursday evening. »
Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing all week, according to the NWS. Next Sunday, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 27 degrees, although the forecast could change during the week, forecasters said.
