Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee are demanding a federal investigation into President Donald Trump’s decision to hire “border czar” Tom Homan, despite an ongoing FBI corruption investigation.

On Wednesday, committee Democrats, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland, sent a letter to Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward, who led the effort to review Trump’s nominees earlier in the year.

“Who knew about Homan’s cash bribery scandal, when did they know about it, and why was Mr. Homan named ‘border czar’ even in the face of such overwhelming evidence that he had taken bribes for government contracts? the letter said.

The investigation follows Attorney General Pam Bondi effort to obstruct on the issue, dodging questions from Democratic senators during a hearing Tuesday. Bondi was questioned about the $50,000 Homan allegedly received in a sting operation after allegedly agreeing to help undercover FBI agents obtain border security contracts.

“You are welcome to speak to the FBI,” Bondi told Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island.

As attorney general, Bondi oversees the FBI and should have been able to provide an answer.

Before Trump’s second term, Homan received thousands in payments to companies wishing to carry out border-related work. Homan is one of the most high-profile figures in Trump’s inner circle, having served in his first administration and being a staunch defender racist, thug, anti-immigration policies.

He occupies a position of prime influence and his recommendations carry considerable weight. Companies that chose to invest with Homan could earn even more than their initial payments once Trump’s second term begins.

For example, it was reported in May, Homan was a paid consultant for the Geo Group, which became a key contractor in carrying out Trump’s mass deportations.

The FBI’s investigation into possible corruption involving Homan was conveniently closed when Trump took office and installed a conservative activist and Author of Trump fanfiction Kash Patel as agency director.

Trump is no stranger to criminal activity, having been sentenced of 34 crimes and himself accused of numerous other crimes. Homan’s bribery saga only adds another layer of criminality to an already scandal-ridden White House.
