US tech companies enabled the surveillance and detention of hundreds of thousands in China

An END survey reveals that US technological companies to a large extent have designed and built China’s surveillance state, playing a much greater role in allowing human rights violations than before. Companies such as IBM, Dell and Cisco have sold billions of technologies to the Chinese police and government agencies, despite repeated warnings that such tools were used to cancel dissent, persecute religious sects and target minorities. Above all, American Surveillance Technologies has enabled a brutal mass detention campaign in the extreme western region of Xinjiang. Most companies have declared that they comply with the laws and regulations of the United States and Chinese.
